Beaconhurst School Opens New Indoor Facility

On the 2nd of June 2017 Beaconhurst School celebrated the opening of its new ‘Golf Hub’ in Bridge of Allan, marking the growing participation and success of the school’s golf programme. The new state of the art facility, purpose built this spring by local company FES on school grounds, shows growing investment in the Beaconhurst Sporting Pathway.

At the official opening the head of golf’s ruling body R & A chief executive Martin Slumbers said:

“It is facilities like these that enable youngsters to begin their journey into golf and enjoy it for a lifetime”

The opening ceremony took place at 10.45am and was followed by a tour of the new facility complete with putting green, golf simulators and a guest appearance from The Claret Jug. In just three years the Beaconhurst golf programme has evolved from six keen golfers in 2014 to a multi structured tier system designed to accommodate the 45 golfers in 2017. The golfers are spilt between the ‘Performance Squad’, ‘Handicap Development Squad’, ‘Future Legends’ and the ‘Mighty Morphin Power Golfers’. Included in those 45 players at Beaconhurst are the county schools girls champion (Zoe Morton), county match play champion (Harry Clark) and Stirling Schools champions (Harry Robertson & Ben Malcolm). The Beaconhurst teams will be making their ISGA matchplay team debut in September.

The school golf sessions take place at the University of Stirling golf centre, Bridge of Allan golf club and most notably the schools brand new indoor golf facility ‘The Beaconhurst Golf Hub’. The indoor facility now gives young golfers the chance of playing, developing and learning through the winter months. With a sound development pathway and a fantastic facility now in place Beaconhurst School is set up to offer scholarships to young golfers.

Beaconhurst is an all-through independent school for boys and girls aged 3–18, located in Bridge of Allan, Stirling. Sport plays a key role in delivering the School’s mission creating a stimulating supportive and ambitious environment which develops young people and their skills to the highest possible level. Golf is now a key, or ‘Beacon’ sport at the school along with tennis and triathlon.

 

The Beaconhurst Golf Programme is run by PGA Professional Tim Mitchell, who uses a variety of coaching techniques to realise the potential in each pupil. Mitchell runs his own company ParSystemGolf, and joined the sports department at Beaconhurst in 2014.
