HARTPURY TAKE THE TITLE

 

Some exceptional golf was on display from school and college players at the Dukes St Andrews. After the first days play over 30 players were 3 over par or better. 123 players from over 20 schools and colleges took part in the National finals at The Dukes St Andrews. Players had all qualified from the British Schools League held from September through April, with areas spreading across Scotland, Ireland and England.
The National Finals consist of team Gross and Nett and Individual gross over 2 days
In the team tournament the best 4 scores from each of the six players counted towards their total on each of the 2 days. After the first day defending champions Hartpury lead the way with a total 285 (66,72,71,76) which included a gross 66 from Joe Harvey – a course record for the Dukes. A remarkable achievement as the weather was breezey and raining on and off. The Golf Colleges Lizie Prior came in with a one under par 70 to help her team into second place after the first days play.
The top finishing 5 teams were all within 14 shots of the leaders so all to play for on the second day.
As the scores came in on the second day where the weather turned windy and cold, Durham who were lying 7th after the first day looked like they may have pulled off the nett trophy, only to be pipped at the post by the Daren Clarke school from Northern Ireland.
Hartpury took the title with a score of 583 over the 2 days a team average of just under 2 over par. They picked up their trophies and belts / buckles from Heraldic Gems
The Golf College took the runners up place on 590
In the team nett competition The Darren Clarke School took the trophy with a nett (573)
In the Individual Championship Joe Harvey (Hartpury) 66 + 71 – 137 took the trophy along with a complete GALVIN GREEN waterproof set
Conor Woods  (Merrist Wood) 73+71-144 took the runners up trophy and a GALVIN GREEN waterproof
Lizzie Prior (The Golf College) 70+74-144 (count back) took the 3rd place trophy and a GALVIN GREEN waterproof
Shannon Flynn ( The Golf College) 71+76- 147 took the girls trophy and a GALVIN GREEN waterproof
The event now attracts world ranking points from the US SPWAR system, the most comprehensive world ranking system in the world
