Almost perfect weather at Carnoustie whilst the rest of the country were suffering downpours, hailstones ad mini tornados. The Independent Schools National Finals were in Scotland at the famous Open venue for their Schools Matchplay Tournament Finals.
17 schools from all over the UK qualified for the National Finals. Loretto and Milfield as last years winners and runners up received automatic entry into the finals. The first days golf was played on the Burnside where the teachers also had their own competition in which Phil Holmes from Leeds won the Gross and Richard Knight from Stowe won the Net.
As the second days play got underway the students went out in reverse leader board order, there looked like there could be some good scores as many of the players were level or under par after the first 8/9 holes. For some Carnoustie showed its teeth in the finishing holes. In the end Wellington held their nerve to win by 4 shots over Loretto.
Birkdale came in third with a total score of 290, whilst Millfield and Leeds came joint 4th with a score of 294.
