Having reached National Team and Individual Finals in this competition last season the Balby Academy of sport players entered the opening fixture with high confidence levels. This year due to the strengthening of the Golf Academy, Balby had entered two teams into the league, thus ensuring that the majority of the players would be representing the academy, and with visions of both teams making it to national finals.
This opening fixture would be a home match at Retford Golf Club on Wednesday 28th September, the academy teams would therefore have the home advantage and would try to make this pay. In glorious sunshine but breezy conditions scoring was set to be difficult with new and more difficult pin positions. Academy captain and vice-captain along with Olivia Winning would set the pace early on returning respectable scores of 76 and 75’s. This was closely followed by round 1 winner Reece Thorlby-Coy (pic) with an excellent gross 73.

Performances then started to struggle, however the Balby Carr ‘A’ team managed to win the gross league comfortably and narrowly missed out on the nett league by two shots. The full team and individual results are displayed below. The standard scratch score for the day proved the difficult conditions as it was calculated at 75 (+3).
