South Wales golfers seal BUCS title

The University of South Wales men have sealed the BUCS Premier South title with a commanding 4.5.- 1.5 win over Buckinghamshire New University in their penultimate game.

Amongst a dominant team performance were a number of excellent individual rounds, including a 5 & 4 win for Captain Theo Baker, and another fine win for Oliver Mottram, who overcame his opponent with a 4 & 3 triumph.

The win followed a hard fought, 4-2 victory over Bournemouth University three days earlier, at the Celtic Manor, venue of the 2010 Ryder Cup, where the University of South Wales play their home fixtures. The golfers have benefited from a partnership between the Celtic Manor and the University’s scholarship programme, which sees the golfers being coached by Wales National Team coach Neil Matthews, who has been delighted to see the consistent performances produced by the team in 2014/15.

The University of South Wales now travel to Exeter University with the league title secured, but with the aim of completing the double over second placed Exeter, which would see the South Wales golfers finishing the league campaign with an impressive undefeated record.
