Whitgift take the trophy at The Junior Open

Young players came from all over the UK to compete for the Junior Open Trophy at ‘The Shire’ golf course in North London. Although the sun was shining, and the wind wasn’t blowing, the extremely thick rough, tight fairways, long holes and well placed water hazards brought many of the players too their knees. However many competitors took the course head on, and were able to achieve some great finishing results.

A fantastic finishing score of 73 gross, a 1 over par round by Arun Brar (Hampshire Collegiate) made him top of the leader board. Following closely behind in 2nd place was Scott Murray (Reeds) with a competitive score of 74 gross. In the U12’s category the gross winner was Hugo Figueiredo (Reeds), shooting 82 gross. The U10 winner was Jack Holmwood form Windlesham.

In the girls category Lucy Walton (Malvern St James) won the individual gross with a 78, 6 over par.

The Nett winners also brought their game shooting way under their handicaps. In 1st place with an outstanding 63 we had Matthew Fairey (Queen Ethelburga’s). Then in 2nd place we had Chris Humphries (Oratory) with a 64 nett. In the U12 category the winner was Harry Brown (St Pauls) coming in close with a nett 65.

The gross team winners were Whitgift with Andrew Philips, Harvey Byers and Thomas Rhodes. With Andrew and Harvey  combining an overall score of 155. The Nett team winners were Monmouth with a combining total of 136.
